United Utilities Haweswater Estate
Haweswater reservoir supplies 25% of water used in the North West of England. It is the highest lake in the Lake District. The reservoir was constructed by raising the level of a natural lake between 1935 and 1947. This resulted in a reservoir 4 miles long and the submergence of Mardale village, the remains of which can still be seen when the reservoir levels are low.
